Community of Families, Community of Love

As Valentine’s Day approaches this year, I was reflecting about the different types of love that we share with others and especially of our customers who loyally support us. Through the years (9 and counting), we have seen children grow, dating couples marry, children born, as well as the heartbreaks of death and divorce and we feel so fortunate to be part of all these important milestones in the lives of our loyal customers. It is truly a special privilege to be part of someone’s life – to be able to share the laughter, joys, sadness and struggles with someone… I feel our customers are an extended part of our core family. Many of my customers have become friends too that I have lunches and coffee with.  When they move out of the area or state, we often continue to stay in contact. Connecting with others on an interpersonal level above and beyond just a professional one is an amazing gift and brings me deep joy. Thinking of Mothers this Mother’s Day

I wanted to post this picture of a velvet coat with silk lining that a customer recently brought in for cleaning. She said it was worn by her mother’s great-grandmother, and so, it was over 100 years old! It was the first time that she was getting it cleaned since inheriting it. It’s truly awe-inspiring for me to think that such a garment with sentimental value could be passed down so gently from generation to generation. I know that I tend to keep a lot of items myself. I kept certain toys and dresses my younger sister wore 25-30 years ago and had my own daughter wear the dresses. It just made it that much more special knowing that she was wearing something that her aunt wore so many decades ago. This Mother’s Day, as I reflect on all the joys and fond memories of motherhood, I thought I would post this special coat as a reflection and Ode to Mothers everywhere that make lives valuable and special. Wedding Gown from Grandmother to Granddaughter

A customer came to us with her grandmother’s wedding gown. She had taken it to a dry cleaner in the Midwest and they damaged the dress in their cleaning process and tried to “recover” it but the silk luster still looked uneven and a bit blotchy. Can we do anything about it was the big question. As always, we never make any guarantees I told her. We can only do our professional best. Well, we recovered the luster, color and texture of the dress and the bride was able to wear it for her wedding! We are so happy to be part of her happy day! Congratulations!!!
