We hosted a booth for the first time at this year’s Baby Expo at the Hillsdale Shopping Center on Sunday, October 6th. Since we are still the only 100% dedicated and Green Business Certified Dry Cleaner in San Mateo City and County, we thought expectant Mommies would be interested to know that it is possible to have their garments cleaned in a truly non-toxic dry cleaner.
I was very honored and excited to be chosen as a panelist, being the Secretary of the Professional Wetcleaners Associations (PWA), at one of the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) Roundtable Hearings scheduled for October 1st regarding the Care Label Rule. James, my colleagues from CA, and I were all ready and sitting in our hotel on the eve of Sunday, September 30th, anxiously watching the TV as the countdown to a possible government shutdown seemed inevitable. Alas, at midnight, CNN and other news stations across the country announced that it was so. Despite the postponement of the hearing, we decided to still stop by the FTC building. We took some pictures and then headed out to a brief bus tour of DC. Many federal offices and departments were closed so we were only able to take pictures from a distance at many monumental places. Nonetheless, it was a very memorable and special trip. I cannot wait to see when the re-scheduling will be. It looks like we will be heading to DC again…
Did I fail to mention just how awesomely talented our tailors and seamstresses are? They are absolutely the best! Herein lies a taste of it… One of our clients had brought in a bear whose paw was completely torn off. We tried to find suede that matched as closely as possible the original tan color. It wasn’t an exact match but it’s hard to do so considering that fabrics fade with time and wear and tear. Voila! The tailors were able to re-create another paw for the little bear.
This post is a bit late since it was an event from October but I thought I would still share!
For the 2nd year in a row, we attended the Annual Dinner & Auction which was held on October 13, 2011 @ the DeLue Clubhouse. Although we have been an active supporter of the BGC for over 5 years now, this was only the second time that we attended the fundraising dinner. That evening, we invited to our table just a handful of our fellow colleagues and special friends who have helped us in the past year in our business growth. There were a couple of special mentors who could not make it because of the distance and scheduling but perhaps next year. It was great fun with James winning a 2 night stay at the Ritz Carlton Club Level during a “Heads or Tails” game and the delicious food was catered by Outback Steakhouse!
There were former SF 49er Football Players there and so many local businesses extended their support for such a great cause. It was a fun and memorable evening that we will remember for many years to come…
